William Michael Weir passed away gently on December 20th, 2025. Our family has been very close knit. We love Bill deeply and cherish the times when we sat at dinner and laughed tears at something that he said. Bill was compassionate, loving, kind and fun.
As a professional, Bill was a national recognized innovator in executive benefits. This unique work coupled with early civic work co-chairing a United Way Charity Fund drive, business division, began Bill's career-long desire to assist in charitable giving. Bill worked to encourage a unified effort on the part accountants, attorneys and financial investment advisors towards charitable use of legacy monies in estate and gift planning. He believed in the force of combined knowledge and cooperation to increase charitable giving. This idea led him to be a founder of the consortium of Planned Giving of Western New York, of which he was a co-chair. Bill also served as president of the Mercy Hospital Foundation and held board and membership positions at Studio Arena Theatre, St. Bonaventure University, Timon High School, and the WNY Boy Scouts of America.
Our family loved to travel and spend time skiing together on winter weekends. Bill took beautiful artistic photographs of scenic locations and of family and friends. Photography was one of Bill's favorite hobbies as well as the care and use of antique boats.
The legacy that he leaves us is his fun-loving spirit and compassion for others. We miss our patriarch. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan (Halversen) Weir, and two loving sons; Jonathan David Weir and Stephen Roy Weir, as well as 6 wonderful grandchildren.
