Mariann Betty Nieman

Nieman, Mariann Betty (nee Reitz); of East Aurora, NY passed away on September 30, 2023 at the age of 94; beloved wife of 72 years to Fred Nieman; devoted mother of Kenneth (Vivian) Nieman, Marilyn (James) Folaron, and Dianne (Christopher) Hayes; survived by grandchildren Jason (Nicole) and Jeffrey (Samantha) Folaron; Ryan (Bridget) Hayes; Sarah (Russell) Kerr, and Nathan Nieman; seven great grandchildren; and sister-in-laws Jean Reitz and Fran Kaefer. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert, Gordon and Alfred Reitz and sister-in-law Sandra Reitz.
Mariann was a graduate of Buffalo Deaconess School of Nursing and worked in various doctor’s offices and East Aurora Schools before becoming a stay at home wife and mother.
She continued using her gift of caring and service through the raising of her three children and in the care of several of her grandchildren. She had the gift of hospitality where all were welcome and hosted many family gatherings over the years. Friends and family benefited from her cooking and homemade pies.
Mariann loved life and enjoyed its simple pleasures. She enjoyed planning for the many travel adventures she and her husband undertook visiting all 50 states with the exception of Hawaii, often in their fifth-wheel camper. Each year she looked forward to the fresh vegetables their large garden produced and which was shared with friends, family and neighbors. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.
She loved her family deeply and participated in as many family events as she could. She will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday from 10 to 11 AM at the Orchard Park Wesleyan Church, 7295 Ellicott Road, Orchard Park, NY, where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11 AM. Memorial donations may be made to the Reitz-Nieman Endowed Scholarship Fund at Anderson University (Anderson, Indiana) or the Orchard Park Wesleyan Church.
