June 12, 1928 – August 1, 2024

Husband of the late Gloria Harrington, his wife of 51 years. Father of Susan M. Certo, Peter J. Illig (Monique), and Nancy Lee Joly (Thomas). Grandfather of Peter and Michael Certo, Amelia (Dolan), Celeste, Grayson and Nathaniel Joly, Anna Witt, and Emma and Timothy Illig, and 3 great grandchildren. Brother of the late Frank (Mary) Illig and Thomas (Marcia) Illig. Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Illig was a native of Kenmore, NY and lived in East Aurora, NY for over 40 years. A devout Catholic who prayed the daily rosary, he was active in Immaculate Conception Church and school, Immaculata Academy and St. Francis High School. He also served on the East Aurora Planning Commission and coached Little League Baseball.

Lee was a graduate of the University of Buffalo School of Engineering and held a master’s degree in economics. His 40-year engineering career in manufacturing and management in the aerospace industry began at Moog, Inc., continued at Martin Marietta and concluded at Bell Textron.

Mr. Illig served in the US Army in World War II in Italy as a Sergeant in the Headquarters of the 503rd MP Battalion. A talented athlete in several sports including baseball, football, hockey and skiing. He and his wife Gloria were founding members of the Sitzmarker and Murray Hill Ski Clubs.

Since retiring, Mr. Illig resided on the west coast of Florida and spent his final years living with his daughter Nancy Lee and her family in Virginia.

The family will be present Sunday, August 25th from 3 to 6 PM at the F.E. Brown Sons Funeral Home, 6575 E. Quaker Street, Orchard Park, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 26th at 9 AM in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 26 Thorn Avenue, Orchard Park, NY.
