Jory A. Herbert

Herbert, Jory A. (nee Funk) Of Orchard Park, NY, passed away August 27, 2023 at age 88 in the skilled Nursing Facility at Fox Run of Orchard Park while under the care of Hospice.Beloved wife of 62 years to George G. Herbert; loving mother of John E. Herbert and the late Christopher G. Herbert; sister-in-law to Mary Lou Pae; aunt of Cindy Moebis and Debra Robey. Jory loved animals, especially German Shepards, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, shows at the Buffalo Shea’s Theater and spending weekends at the Tangelwood Music Center, summer home of the Boston Symphony, and reading. She trained her dogs in obedience, agility, tracking, and therapy work. Her most significant therapy initiative as a member of the Canine Therapy Team of Western New York responding to deliver comfort to the families of the victims of the Flight 3407 plane crash of 2009. She regularly visited several local nursing homes; she was named Fox Run’s Volunteer of the Year award in 2010 for her therapy visits there. She volunteered at the HEART animal shelter in Hamburg and she was a member of the Southtowns Working Dog Club. Jory loved to travel to New York City to attend the Westminster Dog Shows. She loved college basketball and was an avid fan of the Kansas Jayhawks from her home state. Service to be held September 19, 2023, at 10:30 AM in the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 S. Buffalo Street, Orchard Park, NY. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial gifts may be made to the SPCA serving Erie County, 300 Harlem Road, West Seneca, NY 14224.
