Gregory D. “Greg” Brown Sr., age 79, of De Pere, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday afternoon, February 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and son.
Greg was born on January 1, 1947, in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Floyd E. and Margaret (Strassheim) Brown. He grew up in the family funeral home in Orchard Park, NY, and attended the Orchard Park schools, graduating from Orchard Park High School with the Class of 1964. Following high school, Greg went on to attend the Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY.
Upon completion of his studies, Greg passed his mortuary science boards and was licensed to practice mortuary science in the State of New York. Following his graduation in 1969, he returned to Orchard Park to work with his brother at the family funeral home, F.E. Brown & Sons. In 1985, Greg began working for Federated Funeral Directors of America as a field representative, managing the State of Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Always with a smile, Greg made numerous friends while traveling for Federated. He retired from Federated in 2011.
On October 6, 2001, Greg was united in marriage to the former Jane Boenski at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. Throughout the years, the couple lived in Shawano, Pensacola Florida, and De Pere. In his younger days, Greg was an avid motorcyclist, taking Jane on several trips on his Harley-Davidson. They also enjoyed camping in Door County, boating on the Fox River, and traveling to various locations with their camper.
During his time in Orchard Park, Greg was an active member of the Orchard Park Rotary Club. While living in Shawano, he was a member of the Cecil Lions Club. He also served for six years in the National Guard following his graduation from mortuary school. Greg adored his grandchildren and was a man of strong faith.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Brown of De Pere, WI; two sons, Gregory Jr. (Michele) Brown of Shawano and Eric C. (Dawn) Brown of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Lex Hendrick, Colton Brown, Greydon Brown, Alli Brown, Bryce Boenski, Jadyn Brown, and Brody Boenski; step-children, Tanya (Chris) Hendrick of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Tim (Wendy) Boenski of New London, WI; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Brown. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and numerous friends. Greg was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Floyd Brown; and sister, Beth Fuller.
A funeral service for Gregory Brown Sr. will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Sunday at 12:00 pm and continue until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers and plants the family prefers memorials in Greg’s name to the Shawano County Humane Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
