Florence E. Mergenhagen

Florence Emma (nee Heck) Mergenhagen (8/8/1928 - 3/8/2024) Florence moved to East Aurora with her (late) husband George, where she was active in her Church - First Presbyterian - serving as Deacon and on the Annual Bazaar Committee. Florence is a past President of the East Aurora Garden Club. The Club featured her yard with its extensive themed gardens on public tours as fund raisers. As District Eight Director she heralded a South American reforesting project to success. Selection to the Erie County Agricultural Society Hall of Fame acknowledged Florence for more than 25 years of service on the Women's Board of the Erie County Fair. During her service she added a junior division in horticulture and design exhibition. Florence is survived by children Donna Mergenhagen and George (late Donna) Mergenhagen, granddaughters Melissa (Michael) Nightingale and Elizabeth (Geoff) Ilecki and three great-grandchildren; Hope, Tyler and Hannah; Sisters; Doris Flett and Shirley (Thomas) Ulrich and numerous nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her brother Raymond Heck. A celebration of life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora on March 16 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation to the First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora or the East Aurora Garden Club in her memory would be appreciated.
