Bettyann Kinyoun of Williamsville, a retired teacher and outdoor enthusiast, died on August 3rd, 2026, at Fox Run, Orchard Park, NY. Born in Hamburg, NY in 1935 but soon moved to Wanakah, NY until 1980, she attended Wanakah School and Hamburg High School. She graduated from Elmira College in 1957 with majors in biology and psychology, did graduate work at Buffalo State College and U.B. and earned a master's degree in education from Brockport State College and Fredonia.

Bettyann taught elementary school in Warwick (In the Catskills), in Churchville-Chili, and finally in the Kenmore-Tonawanda schools where she specialized in remedial reading. She retired in 1994 and embarked on her volunteering mission with the Erie County SPCA, fostering cats, kittens, baby squirrels, and rabbits. She also volunteered at Messinger Woods, a wildlife rehab rehabilitation center in Holland, NY.

She spent summers at the family cottage on Keuka Lake, a charming lakeside home once owned by her great-grandfather, who also had a vineyard there. The grapes were harvested and taken to the cottage to await transport by steamship to the wineries. She loved to get out on the water, go boating, kayaking, and swimming with great enthusiasm.

Betty Ann had a deep appreciation for nature and outdoors. While in college, she taught swimming and golf at a girls' camp. She played tennis, bicycled, and skied, both downhill and cross-country. She was always ready for the next adventure, whether it was hiking, birdwatching, snow shoeing, or other outdoor activity. She traveled extensively both abroad and in the U.S. with good friend Dee Young.

Bettyann leaves three nephews: Peter F. Kinyoun of Elma, Robert C. Kinyoun of Keuka Lake, and Jeffrey G. Kinyoun of Peach Tree City, GA. Also, close cousins: Julia Quigley of Biddeford, ME, Thomas Karnes of the Catskills, John Karnes of Elizabethtown, KY, and Cynthia Karnes of Dunkirk. Bettyann was predeceased by her close friend, Shirley L. Havice of Williamsville.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday August 30th 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Fox Run Maloney Event Center; 1 Fox Run Lane, Orchard Park NY.
