Delina Macfarland

August 16, 1929 — December 29, 2025

Delina "Lindy" (Clapp) Macfarland, of Orchard Park, NY, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025.

Precious wife of 58 years to the late Willard C. Macfarland. Dearest mother of Marnee M. Lerums; Willard C. Macfarland, Jr. (Shirley); Lina M. Foster; and Margot M. Henel (Jeffrey).

Cherished grandmother of Helen Lerums (Silvia Crespo), Anne Schaffa (Danny), Willard Lerums (Natalie), Kyle Henel (Taner Gokce), Lindy Potratz (John), and Lanning Henel (Rebecca Stremersch). Adored great-grandmother of eight.

Beloved sister of the late Charles E. Clapp and John B. Clapp II; survived by her loving sister, Patty Moll, and many nieces and nephews.

Born on August 16, 1929, in Newton, Massachusetts, Lindy lived a life marked by curiosity, confidence, and an enduring love of adventure.

As a young girl, Lindy could often be found sailing her skiff around Waquoit Bay on Cape Cod-an early glimpse of the independence that would define her life. She attended Northfield Mount Hermon in Gill, Massachusetts, where her natural athleticism, musical and artistic talent were already evident. From there, she went on to Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, serving as president of her class-an early sign of the leadership, warmth, and presence she would carry throughout her life and into her family.

When Willard accepted a position as president of Winsmith Industries in Springville, New York, the family moved to Orchard Park in 1971. Together with her husband, Lindy became an avid world traveler, embracing new experiences with enthusiasm and curiosity. Travel was not only a passion but a gift she shared generously, treating her family to beautiful vacations-most notably at The Balsams in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.

Lindy was actively involved in many community leadership roles over the years. She was a founder of Orchard Park Community Church and remained engaged with her P.E.O. sisterhood and her Antique Study Group until her passing. For the last 15 years, Lindy lived independently at Fox Run and was grateful for the caring staff and companionship of her many friends.

Known for her dry, quick-witted sense of humor, Lindy had a way of delivering perfectly timed remarks that left those around her laughing long after the moment had passed.

Lindy will be remembered for her strength and resilience, her wit, her generosity, and the joy she found in bringing her family together.

No prior visitation. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Orchard Park Community Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orchard Park Community Church, 7451 East Quaker Rd., Orchard Park, NY 14127.
